Star Wars fans around the world are celebrating their special day, with #maythefourthbewithyou trending and the annual related spike in movie streaming. It seems the clamor for the iconic series of space operas shows no signs of abating.

Many of the Cognac Expert team share the love, and Star Wars Day, along with the annual National Space Day (the first Friday in May—so this year it was 01 May) got us thinking…

After all, with current events meaning most of us are confined to barracks, if we ever needed a trip to worlds a million miles from our own, then it has to be now. So Trekkies, Star Wars, and sci-fi fans alike—take your seat on the Cognac Expert shuttle: destination an undisclosed location, somewhere “in a galaxy far, far away”.

1 – Star Wars Drinks: Savareen Brandy

What better place to start than the infamous Mos Eisley Cantina? This wretched “hive of scum and villainy” serves its liquor fast and strong. From Jawa Juice to Blue Milk, you might want to be careful what you imbibe here. However, if you tip the bartender a nod, order a Nova Blaster and ask him to substitute Savereen Brandy for the Corellian stuff, you’ll gain entry to the establishment’s secret black market weapons stash.

Now we’re suitably armed, let’s jump back on our CE shuttle and head to Endor, where we can enjoy a quality Bothan Brandy. Following this, we’ll take a detour to a secret drinking establishment allowing for a unique opportunity to enjoy a top-quality, aquamarine-colored Abrax Cognac.

2 – Star Trek Alcohol: Saurian Brandy

Brandy and Cognac fans rejoice—the Star Trek universe doesn’t disappoint as we take a warp-speed jump into the world of the Klingons. Our space bar hop continues with a hit of Saurian Brandy and, if we’re really lucky, we might even be gifted an Aldebaran Whisky from Picard himself (resurrected in his new AI body, of course).

While we’re at it, you might want to sip on some Romulan Ale. OK, so it’s not a spirit—but if this illegal brew was good enough for Kirk, then, hey, it’s certainly good enough for us.

However, you might want to draw the line at Klingon Bloodwine, unless you have a serious penchant for hangovers…

3 – Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy’s Gargle Blaster

Hold tight, as we prepare to make the universal leap to the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. Here the drink of choice has to be Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster. But beware, being as a swallow of this potent concoction is described as being “like having your brains smashed out by a slice of lemon, wrapped ’round a large gold brick”.

We don’t know about you, but this inter-galactic pub crawl is certainly only for those with strong constitutions. But perhaps this Gargle Blaster has helped us understand why these guys were so obsessed with 42. After all, liquor at this potency has to have some kind of meaning, and the answer to the ultimate question, as determined by Deep Thought, is surely easier to come to terms with after a shot or two of this brain-scrambling beverage…

4 – Hennessy XO as directed by Ridley Scott

OK, faithful pilot, it’s time to point the nose cone back towards Earth. We’re feeling a little queasy…

But we’re not at an end yet, because there are no less than seven stops along the way. Yes, we’re heading to the many worlds created by that master of the moving image—none other than Sir Ridley Scott. The film director extraordinaire treats us to his multi-faceted depictions of the seven tasting notes of the famous Hennessy XO, also known as The Seven Worlds.

It’s time to kick back with this somewhat more human-friendly spirit, and indulge in the masterful visual creation that took the world by storm when it was released in April 2019.

5 – RémySpace from Rémy Martin

Hold tight, because re-entry is going to be a bumpy ride. So, if you’re feeling a little fragile from this other-worldly trip of over-indulgence, then you may want to take a few deep breaths to get through it. But as we speed towards home we’ve got one final treat lined up for you—this time from the creative minds at Remy Martin.

It’ll take some getting hold of, but back in 2001 the Cognac innovator produced a bottle specifically created to be enjoyed in space. RemySpace was produced in a limited run of only 3,000 mini bottles, fashioned by F. Loeb Design for the Cognac giant.

RemySpace limited edition Cognac

Officially certified as being ready for space invasions, the Cognac is frozen to -12 degrees Centigrade (about 10 Fahrenheit), then filtered with the same filters used to recycle the water on space shuttles. Fatty substances were removed, concentrating the aromas even more. This rarity is designed to be enjoyed ice-chilled and is presented in a flexible plastic flask complete with drinking straw (how else are you going to enjoy it at zero gravity?). It also boasts a valve to stop the liquid trickling out and it’s said that that the futuristic flask will protect against external radiation!

Welcome Home

Well, we hope you’ve enjoyed our interstellar journey. We don’t know about you, but we’re feeling the need for a little post-travel snooze (and detox!). It was all going so well until that vicious Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster. So, if you don’t mind, we’ll just rest our weary heads a wee-while.

When we wake up we might be able to convince ourselves that it was all just a dream…

I wonder, after 20 years, how many RémySpace from Rémy Martin are still in existence?
