In figures just in, the past 12 months have seen the sales of cognac doing very nicely indeed.
In terms of volume, worldwide sales are up 12%, but when this is converted to cold hard cash, this shows a staggering increase of 25% over the last twelve months. And the great thing is that sales on a global scale have all seen meteoric rises.

Far East sales are up 22%, Europe 10.4% and North America and Mexico are up a respectable 4% in terms of volume.
Although Asia is still by far the largest market, it appears that whilst the global economic crisis is still gaining a cautious recovery, cognac appears to be one of the most sought after commodities – wherever in the world you may live.

It is good to see cognac is selling so well but we must be concerned. Cognac statistics from the BNIC show an alarming reduction of older cognacs which means that even younger cognacs will be used to making the generic blends. The only way to counteract this is to buy them with numbers on bottles, either ages or vintages.
