Probably the most expensive cocktail in the world: Louis XIII meets Iranian emperor

New York City. A warm summer night.

A man enters the Covet nightclub, slowly sits down and orders a drink. But not any drink. It would be The Icarus! This mixdrink is a creation of mixologist Orson Salicetti and costs $160! Why? Because it is made from extremly rare Louis XIII and Iranian saffran oil.. As the bottle of Louis XIII Cognac is already at a price of $1600 and the saffron oil $300 a gram – this drink is quite expensive.

Remy's Louis XIII

Louis XIII is a very rare Cognac coming from the house of Rémy Martin, blended from Grande Champagne eaux-de-vie, with over 1200 different cognacs. Some are over a hundred years old, have been ageing in oak barrels for quite a while. There are even two limited editions of Louis XIII, which are even more expensive and even more rare: one is the Louis XIII Black Pearl and the other the Louis XIII Rare Xask 43,8.

Louis XIII

Salicetti wanted to create something very special, something which is more than just an ordinary cocktail. The bar has sold six Icarus so far. Let’s see how many customers they will find this summer.
