After much speculation, it has today been revealed that LMVH is to purchase 50.4% of Bulgari. The company has long been seen as a potential takeover target, with rumours of the Swiss company Swatch being in the running to purchase.
At a cost of €3.7 billion, this extends the LMVH lead in being the world’s largest luxury goods group and the company is built solely on acquisitions. The group’s brands now include Luis Vuitton Handbags, Hennessy Cognac, Moet & Chandon Champagne and Hermes.
Bulgari produce luxury goods such as jewellery, watches, handbags, perfumes and other accessories. Perhaps the introduction of the Italian jeweller to the family could see a collaboration between Hennessy and Bulgari for an extra special bottle of cognac.
Bulgari meets Hennessy
For instance, Bulgari’s Anish Kapoor ring from the Bzero1 collection in pink gold and steel would make a stunning and unique rim for high end crystal bottle. Or the 18 carat yellow gold and steel Sakura Flower from the Tonda jewellery collection which combines the Bulgari logo into an ancient symbol would make a wonderful feature around which to design and package a bottle.
