The smoking ban in the UK has provided an opportunity for the super plush London May Fair Hotel to create a room that not only can you enjoy a cigar, but also some of the most prestigious cognacs and other alcoholic tipples.

The five star luxury accommodation has transformed the original smoking room – once the haunt of only male patrons – into a plush place where both sexes can sit and enjoy a smoke with their cognac.

Cigar Room

The newly opened May Fair Cigar Room provides a place where guests can smoke in warm, sheltered surroundings thanks to having just less than half of the walls being of a solid construction.  This allows for the room to adhere to the ban on indoor smoking that came into place in the UK a few years ago.

Designed by Graham Cox, a leader in the world of cigar room design, it’s located on the first floor of the hotel.  Live fireplaces, swinging chairs, day beds and chain mail mesh walls provide opulent surroundings.  Along with an impressive array of cigars, some of the world’s finest cognacs, armagnacs and whiskies are on offer for customers.

The flagship of cognacs carried is the Voyage de Delamain Grande Champagne Cognac at £17,000 per bottle.

For those who might need a little advice on the best pairings of cigars and cognac or other tipple, the May Fair Cigar Room has hired expert sommeliers to advise and guide.  These are headed by lead sommelier, Sophia Christoforidou.
