Well, just when you think you’ve seen it all, another OTT concept hits the headlines. And this time it’s the humble cupcake that’s been given the Vegas makeover.
In all honesty, this cupcake has to be called a work of art. Named the ‘Decadence D’Or’, this chocolaty marvel is topped with 14 carat gold and a healthy dose of Remy Martin Louis XIII Cognac.

It’s the creation of pastry chef Michelle Turbano and executive chef Johann Springinsfeld at the Venetian and Palazzo resorts. The base is made from soft red velvet cake, filled with a chocolate ganache and vanilla bean caviar (hand made, naturally). A sugar Fleur-de-Lis is added, and then Louis XIII infused into the cake. A chocolate dome sits on top on which are liberal sprinkles of 14 carat gold flakes, gold caviar and the Remy Martin logo.
Turbano says of her creation, “It’s got a really delicious chocolate flavour, really marvellous”.

So – bearing in mind the gold, the cognac, and the fact that its in Las Vegas, how much do you think over a dozen people have spent on this little morsel since it was introduced in 2009? Go on, give it your best shot…
A cool $750 bucks per cupcake – that’s how much it costs! Crazy or Art – what do you think?
In our humble opinion, Cognac Expert thinks it’s sacrilege to spoil the wonder of Louis XIII with all that sugar and chocolate. But each to their own. Although, if anyone wants to send one over to us, we’d be happy to give it a try and write an honest tasting review. All in the name of research, of course…
