This is a very nice bottle… Can you provide a picture of the bottom of the stopper?
This is a numbered decanter – 286 – and should have a matching numbered stopper as well. Some shady sellers may engrave a blank stopper to match the bottle number but this is not a good idea because the new blank stoppers do not fit the older bottles and the dimension can be easily verified with a caliper.
Bottles in the Red Octagonal boxes are from the 1969-1979 period when Louis XIII was mass-produced and not numbered so your bottle has somehow found its way from its original box into this much more recent box.
The number 286 tells me it from the early 1950s and should be in a rectangular green velvet box or a Rattan basket.
Can you provide more background on the hisotry of this bottle and how it found its way into this box?
I have a 750ml Louis Xlll still in case. Stopper #AB2665 with matching certificate.
Would like to sell for $1800 or best offer.
Thanks
Jim – It would be better not to add your bottle to an existing thread since you can’t add pictures and the two discussions will become entangled. You should submit your bottle to Sebastian with pictures so it can have its own thread.
That being said I don’t think you will ever get $1,800 for a new style Louis XIII. Serial number AB2665 is a post-1980 bottle with the metallic gold capsule. What type of case does it have? Square with truncated pyramid lid? Clam shell with curved lid? Vertical box with slide doors? Is it a Baccarat bottle or a St Louis bottle? I think you shouldn’t expect to get much more than $1,300-$1,400 for any of these, and for some about $1,000-$1,100. I don’t buy newer Louis XIII since it has no collection value and resells poorly except at very low prices.
Hi,
What is your piece for this bottle?
Thanks
I have a similar bottle in the green velvet box. The number etched on the bottom of the bottle and stopper is 86. How old do you think this bottle is?
Dear Tim,
you can also submit your bottle and get an article about your own bottle.
Let me know, if you need assistance.
Best regards,
Jacqueline
