The house of Martell has teamed up with the brilliance of artist, Mathilde de L’Ecotais, for this year’s festive limited edition offerings. And this time they’ve not constrained it to a single product. Instead, they’re bringing us three different iterations, each under the banner they’re calling, ‘The Art of Generosity’. The artwork has been applied to the Martell VS Single Distillery, Martell Blue Swift, and the legendary, Martell Cordon Bleu. And we have to say, it’s really rather spectacular.
Blue is the Color
Blue has always been the signature color of this historic brand. But as we know, the various different expressions of Cognac brough to us by Martell celebrate the joy of eau-de-vie on so many different levels. The artwork that adorns these three qualities signifies just that. Mathilde de L’Ecotais is a contemporary artist and photographer who’s worked with Martell to create this festive edition. She’s successfully combined age old tradition with the latest in technology to bring striking intensity to these exclusive limited editions.
Bold artistic flair meets 19th century heritage
Mathilde has utilized pure creativity in these designs, cleverly merging the ‘cyanotype’ technique with all that’s available in our digital age. This technique was invented in the 19th century, and is an elaborate photographic printing process whereby a cyan solution is applied to paper with a brush, and then uses exposure to sunlight to bring the images they hold to life. The main characteristic of this process is the use of the intense blue color, which of course is the signature shade of Martell Cognac.
Each of the three bottles in the collection has been given its own unique angle. For the Martell Blue Swift, Mathilde de L’Ecotais chose to bring attention to the famous Martell Swift emblem, highlighted on a vanilla background. This brings to mind the very distinct sweet notes that this blend presents, thanks to being finished in Kentucky bourbon casks.

This festive limited edition comes in a special gift box packaging, with an engraved metal julep cup.
For the Art of Generosity design for the Martell VS Single Distillery Cognac, Mathilde used her unique artistic talents to show the double distillation of the product represented by a bubble pattern created with dynamic brush strokes.
Included in the gift packaging are two limited edition engraved glasses—perfect for sipping from. It would make a perfect gift for anyone who loves Cognac, at any time of the year. Discover more about the Martell VS Single Distillery Cognac.
And then, of course, there’s the famous Cordon Bleu
A favorite of so many around the world, this stunning limited edition of the iconic Martell Cordon Bleu will certainly be one that the collectors are going to want to get their hands on. The image shows an image of grape and vine leaves embodied by sweeping circular brush strokes. This represents the wonderful round and generous flavors associated with this world beating Cognac. The classic shaped bottle has been transformed by wonderful tones of blue and gold. To further emphasis the iconic status held by this classic Cognac, it’s presented in a rather luxurious case and standing on a pedestal.
Create your own design
In conjunction with these three limited editions, Martell also presents a state of the art digital experience that allows you to create your own design. This is based around the Cordon Bleu bottle. You access this via a mobile app (accessed by flashing the QR code available on the Cordon Bleu limited edition), or at various locations around the world, including selected airports. Using the specially created software, you then create your own personal decoration around the Cordon Bleu bottle. This can then be transformed into an electronic gift card and shared with others.
The experts at Martell are always keen to push the boundaries. They’re recommending new and exciting ways in which to sip your favorite Cognac. This includes mixing Martell Cordon Bleu with sparkling mineral water, creating a refreshing drink they’re calling, Halo.
Or why not create the, ‘Martell Sidecar’? Place 15 ml lemon juice, 20 ml Triple Sec, and 45 ml of Martell VS Single Distiller Cognac into a cocktail shaker. Shake it until the metal becomes frosted. Strain the liquid into a coupe glass, twist an orange peel over the drink, and enjoy.
