This year, 2012, is the 50th anniversary of Jamaican Independence, and Hennessy Cognac are to produce a Limited Edition bottle to celebrate.

Although the design of the bottle has yet to be revealed, we do know that it will be the VS quality that is so popular on the island.  It will be available to purchase solely in Jamaica through the official distributor, J. Wray and Nephew Ltd.

Hennessy’s marketing manager for the Caribbean, Geoffrey Bouilly, said,

“Jamaicans have been very loyal to the Hennessy brand, particularly Hennessy VS, and so the Moët Hennessy Group created a very special limited edition bottle exclusively for Jamaica as a symbol of their appreciation and respect for the Jamaican people on the achievement of this historic milestone in the country’s history.”

The limited edition bottle will be unveiled and available for purchase on the 1st of May, 2012.

Along with this bottle, Hennessy and the distributor are also running a competition for bartenders to produce a Hennessy based cocktail that will be the official drink of the Independence celebrations.  There have been four regional heats, with the winner of each heat competing to have their cocktail crowned as the winner and gaining the title of the official ‘Hennessy Mixologist.”

Hennessy Cognac brand manager, Debbian Spence-Minott, said

“We want to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Jamaica’s Independence with an original, first-class cocktail created by a Jamaican and made with Hennessy VS, which is the world’s leading cognac, and Jamaica’s finest local ingredients.”
