Here comes an older Jas Hennessy & Co bottle, a three star *** (old VS rules..) cognac. The owner is one of our readers.
The bottle is located in Central Florida, USA. “My mom got the bottle from her aunt who got it from her boyfriend. My mom remembers seeing it in her aunt’s house at least seventy years ago, but we don\’t know how old it was when her aunt got it. Mom kept it for a special occasion.”
(If you also have a Cognac bottle you would like to sell, or you need information about age or value – send us photos and information, just submit: Use this form – but please be aware: if you don’t follow the steps precisely, we will not publish your bottle.)
The label reads: Top label on the neck has 3 stars.
Main label just says: HENNESSY
Then separate big label below looks like this:
JA. HENNESSY & Co. COGNAC
(with a very small “s” after the “JA” and on top of the period.)
At the very bottom left corner of the big label it says “REGISTERED AT” In the middle at the bottom, (equally small) are the numbers “304” and at the bottom right it says “STATIONERS’ HALL”
The back label looks like a lot of handwriting in French. I’m not sure if it’s actual handwriting or a printed label made to look like handwriting. The words “TRADE MARK are separated by something that is possibly an arm shaped like a backwards “z.” The arm is holding a medieval axe or some kind of knight’s weapon. I will try to copy the words as I see them, but I’m sure I’m going to misinterpret some of the letters:
Torin nos “Cognacs” font garantis “Pure Eau de.vie de Cognac” et font expedies’ avis “l’ Acquit Regional Cognac, delivze par l’administration de l’Etah eniformement aux lois fraucaites. Tous nos “Cognacs” soret de la meilleurs qualite’, mais l’ages diffizeuto. Tortes nos Touteilles perteut La meme etiquette.
Selou l’age de nos “Cognacs” les colo et les torsetores porteset les marques Suivantes:
Then it has three columns:
one star arm/axe symbol X.O.
two stars V.O. X.S.O.
three stars s.O. “Extra”
Ja Hennefay al’
(I know it’s weird, but it does look like an “f”)
The silver seal on the top has Ja HENNESSY & CO. COGNAC stamped on it with the arm/axe symbol in the middle.
Tax labels, revenue, signs or similar:
How has the bottle been stored:
- In a dry place
- Lying on its side
Some more information about the bottle:
- Cork is protected by a silver cap / seal
The level of the cognac: Mid shoulder: the level of cognac has reached the middle of the shoulder
