Very nice bottle but the level is VERY LOW. Cognac should be stored upright not laying down. Bottle is from late 1950s or early 1960s.
What does the front of the box look like? Could you post a photo?
I can offer you $400 only because of low level.

The box is in excellent condition. For some reason I cannot post a picture here. If you want to send me your e-mail address I will gladly send you a picture.

    Thank You

HENNESSY EXTRA bottle is produced between 1948-1973

“Extra” quality which was replaced in 1979 by “Paradis”

Indeed level is low and bottle laying on it’s side is not so good for storage & cork will be damaged also

I will raise my offer to $525. I believe Don is right about the level issue but I think we are still in the OK range. Make sure the bottle is not laying down in the future.
Don: Do you know this box design? I know several boxes with Richard Hennessy portrait on the front but this box is pretty strange. Any idea of age?

Thank you for the advise. Bottle is now being stored standing up. Michael and Paul please contact me via my e-mail and we will get something done. Since they do not want me posting my email address, please go through “Cognac Expert” to get my info. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

i’ve owned 4 of these and have one now – i believe from the 1950s.
All of the levels have been identical.
The exception was a very late bottle where the level was high

I wonder if these bottles were ever filled higher than shoulder level – i suspect they aree prorbaby 70cl in a bigger bottle.

Anyway i’ve had enough of the’low level’ con men here who still all seem to want to buy in spite of their’horror’
Methinks thou doest protest too much

I have many of these bottles both XO and Extra from 1950s and 1960s.

There are very large variations in the levels indicating a poorly designed cork/capsule that releases vapor over time. I’ve seen many sealed bottles with really low level, even down to half full. And a much larger proportion of these bottles than you would expect have low levels. You even confirm this with your comment that “All of the levels have been identical”…meaning LOW.

People still collect them but level is a major factor in the price you can buy/sell them for. I would offer $850 for this bottle if it had a good level.

If you don’t like the fact that your bottle has sub-normal level don’t blame the messengers, blame yourself for storing it improperly or for buying a bottle with low level in the first place. Your bottle is in the “probably still OK” state. A little lower and you have to factor in that the cognac could be undrinkable.
