If you’ve got a spare $10,000 (or really want to impress that special someone or just like cognac cocktails or luxurious gifts in general), then head over to the Wynn XS Nightclub in Las Vegas, and purchase The Ono. But be aware that this Remy Martin Louis XIII Black Pearl Cognac based cocktail will set you back to the tune of $10,000.

But that is a cocktail for two people (oh, so that’s alright then…).

So what’s in this crazily priced tipple, and what makes it able to command such a hefty price tag?

Well, it’s reputed to be inspired by the Polynesian god, Oro, who brought a black pearl along to give to the princess of Bora Bora.  When you order The Ono, not only do you get half an ounce of Remy Martin Louis XIII Black Pearl Cognac in each of the cocktails, but you also get a complete bottle of Charles Heidsieck 1981 Champagne Charlie, and about four ounces of this bubbly goes into each cocktail.

Along with the cognac and the champagne, you get Sence Rose Nectar, a rose syrup from Bulgaria.  Add in some freshly squeezed orange juice and some apricot puree, and that’s what makes up the cocktail.

However, the experience itself is not complete without a team of 20 staff members who form a procession to your table and mix the cocktails in front of you.  After mixing, the cocktails are presented to you in two gold rimmed, Baccarat champagne flutes, and you’re also given a pair of sterling silver Mont Blank cufflinks (for the gents), and an 18 carat gold necklace with a black pearl and diamond (for the ladies).

And despite the expense, General Manager of Wynn XS Nightclub, Yannick Mugnier, says that the cocktail has been a winner with those who’ve had a run of luck at the tables.  Since its introduction in 2009, around 25 of them have been sold.

Good to know that they are not wasting a decent cognac here on people who presumably couldn’t tell one from another…? If they could tell the difference they wouldn’t be wasting it mixing an expensive cognac with other things.

I have no problem with cognac cocktails per se, some are excellent, but the above is just excess for the sake of it for those with too much money burning a hole in their pocket…

They say a fool and his money are soon parted; one wonders therefore where 25 fools have managed to acquire the necessary funds from – and preusmably substantially more – than the price of this drink? The world never ceases to amaze!
