The 29th of June, saw a visit from two European commissioners at an invitation from the BNIC. Hermanus Vertsteijlen, director of the European Commission responsible for economic markets, and his assistant, Ersilia Moliterno, met with Catherine Le Page, director of the BNIC.

The meeting was for the board to get a deeper insight into the proposed change in planting rights that are due to come in from 2015-1018. Whilst he stated that the ‘open borders’ policy for the exportation of cognac is most welcome, he expressed that there are some misgivings about the proposed removal of the planting rights.
The board is due to consult and produce a report by the end of 2012. They will then take up to two years to come to a decision over the planting rights.
