Here comes one powerful woman. Dominique Hériard Dubreuil is ranked by Fortune 2008 as the world’s 42nd most influential business woman. She is the CEO of Remy Cointreau since 2001 and Chairman of the Board since 2004.
Born in 1946, she has forged an extremely successful career and is known as the ‘Grande Dame’ of Cognac. But it is clear that her business influence stretches way beyond France and the spirits business. Before joining the family firm she was involved in Public Relations, and from 1970 through to 1988 worked with Havas Conseil, Ogilvy & Mather, Hill & Knowlton and McCann-Erickson. She then went on to form her own agency, Infoplan.
Alongside her position at Remy Martin, she is also is a member of the board of FEVS (Fédération des exportateurs de vins & spiritueux), Comité Colbert, Vinexpo Américas, Baccarat (the top end French crystal producers) and Stora Enso.
Through this background she gained a thorough marketing knowledge and has taken these skills to make Remy Martin known throughout the Cognac world and beyond for its remarkable advertising skills which strike directly to the heart of the consumer. Remy Martin’s customer displays in various outlets are stylish, current and embrace the imagery of the Cognac region to draw the customer to the product.
And Mme Dubreuil is not afraid to use slightly controversial advertising techniques either. An expert in the luxury goods field, she says that ‘we want to make sexy goods for the market.’ After all, who can fail to remember the famous ‘Cointreauversial’ advertising campaign with the vaudeville performer Dita von Teese. Look out for Remy’s latest creation, a diamond themed bottle – Rémy Martin Diamant – which is cleverly designed to represent a jewellery box with a diamond nestled within.
Dominique Hériard Dubreuil is no stranger to leading the field in other ways as well. Back in 2003, her father was seeking a successor for the Cellar Master’s job, and she championed the cause for the first ever female appointment, personally arranging a meeting between him and Pierrette Trichet, who then went on to become the only female Cellar Master in Cognac.
A business lady who never fails to give credit to her formidable team of staff, she inspires the talent and loyalty needed to keep the Remy Martin brand moving forwards and upwards. Indeed, with Dominique Hériard Dubreuil at the helm, Remy Martin is sure to remain at the forefront of the Cognac market.
