CognacExpo 2018: Now a major event on the Cognac calendar

Ever since its first fledgling year, back in 2012, CognacExpo has nestled its way into the heart of the Cognac community, and is now a regular on the Cognac calendar. Owner, Kjetil Hansen, dreamed of bringing a global event to his home town of Bergen, Norway. And now, seven years down the line, no one can deny that he’s managed to do just that.

The 2018 event is being held on Saturday 20 October 2018, at the Radisson Blu Royal Hotel, Bergen, Norway. The event is now well and truly the largest Cognac specific event in Europe, and probably the world. And we at Cognac Expert are delighted to partner with them.

Producers galore

With over 50 producers exhibiting in 2018, this makes CognacExpo the largest such event. Larger even, (or at least comparable in terms of Cognac producers) than both Vinexpo and Prowein. And the unique aspect of CognacExpo is that it’s totally Cognac specific. Producers, and Master Blenders, will be exhibiting, such as those from Jean Fillioux, Grosperrin, Hine, and Prunier. When we spoke with Kjetil recently, already more than 550 tickets had been sold, making it the best year ever in terms of pre-attendance.

It’s a real coup for the show that this year, for the first time, the BNIC are attending. Not only that, but they’re also running a Master Class. There are only 50 places available for this, and already 35 tickets have been snapped up.

What’s a Master Class, exactly?

These are presented by the house’s themselves, and gives the chance to get down and dirty with the expertise of the Master Blender. It’s a wonderful opportunity to gain a deeper knowledge into the passion, talent, and savoir faire of some wonderfully historic brands. And, naturally, get to taste a few of their wares.

Fun facts about CognacExpo

During the day no less than 3,500 glasses are used during the tastings at the Cognac Master Classes. Now that’s a lot of glassware. We have to say, we’re just glad that we’re not responsible for the washing up.

CognacExpo is growing in popularity and size so much, that next year (2019), the location will have to change to one much larger.
