Making that extra special cognac purchase isn’t something that should be rushed, in our humble opinion. After all, there’s so many variables to consider; the age, the blend, the growing region(s), not to mention should you stick with your tried and tested favourite brand or perhaps branch out into the unknown and try something new.
But when the world’s largest ever cognac collection of 1008 bottles went up for auction on June 18th, it took the Chinese buyer a mere two minutes to make his purchase. For a cool 300,000 euros…
The auction, which featured only the sale of this rotary club world record breaking collection, was won by Mr Arthur Go, an investor from Shanghai. After his winning bid (which was for the reserve amount for the collection) said that he’s sensitive to the charity aspect of the auction, and that the collection will be kept together as a whole unit.
An impulse buy? Well, we think not, but as a successful shopping exhibition, it certainly takes some beating.
