Republic of San Marino Cognac: A wooden leather bottle

“You’ve got a bottle?” – Yes. And this time it is a very strange one. One of Cognac Expert’s readers sent us his unkown bottle,  and it looks rather crazy.

Apparently it comes from the republic of San Marino.  But as you know, this is impossible, as Cognac only comes from Cognac country, Charente, France.

So is it perhaps a Cognac dedicated to the Republic? Our reader tells us it is a very old bottle that has been in grandmother’s basement for decades. It was given to her by her sister who bought it in San Marino.

It is in a leather bound bottle and sealed with what looks like a thick layer of wax. It has never been opened and all the label says is “Rep. San Marino” and “Cognac” underneath. It has a leather strap attatched to it.

I found a simular bottle today in my grandfathers house.
I looks a bit different then this one.
It has the same shape but the leather is way different.
Mine is brighter and made out of the same leather and not the nice details you see ad the side of this bottle.
Also the leather is all nice wrapped up around the buttle with only some wrinkels ad the top where the bottle gets narrow.
Also the label looks different.
It says

COGNAC

REP. S.MARINO

And it looks like its nailed with two metal pins.
BTW(i dont have the brand on it like this one)

it also had two metal clips on the front. Maybe to hold cans or something like that on to, so you dont have to drink out of the bottle.

It has the same goldlike rings to hold the leather. But the leather strapp of mine is dark brown and not ribbelt ad the sides like the one on the picture.

Its made in the beginning of the 1900 till 1929. Some where never opend what was best for these bottles cause when it was opend you need to drink it in like 1 a 1.5 hour or it would lose it nice delecate taste.
Some got lost or transported by germans americans whatsover.
I know this one was opend right afther the WWII ended on a party by americans who found this in a german weaponfactory. My grandpa took the bottle as a souvenier and has been ontouched ever since i saw it hanging ad the wall in the attic.

I have similar bottle of Gognac REP.S.MARINO. The label is different and the neck of the bottle is different too. On the neck is similar ear like coffee cup has, but smaller. My finger dosen’t even go thru of it. And it’s not sealed with wax just wooden cap.
