Looking for Caretaker Couple: Job Proposal & House on Estate in French Cognac Region

You always wanted to leave the big city and go to French cognac country / Charente to live on an estate in nature? This job & house proposal might be something of interest then…

A family living in the Charente area is looking for a couple

  • that takes over tasks on an the estate
  • lives in a house on the estate.

The estate is agricultural, corn and sunflowers grow here; most of the agricultural work is outsourced. The second acticity is holiday rentals. The estate itself is over 100 hectares, has a valley with two lakes, fields and woods. There are three holiday rentals on the estate which need to be taken care of. The estate is 40 minutes away from Angouleme, 45 minutes away from the sea – close to Barbezieux.

Best case would be if he is an early-retired man, or with a half-time job so he has some hours available to work (during the week/weekends) for doing repariring tasks, maintenance – it would be ideal if he would have somehow an agricultural or practical background; but that is not 100% necessary. She would be half-time employed (potentially CDD, followed by a CDD) – this is something which needs to be discussed.

The house where the couple will live in is isolated from every kind of city or town, on the estate – in nature; with garden and lots of space; close to the main building of the estate (on the birds eye picture, on the upper left).

Job profile: Caretaker, facility manager, maintenance

He and she would have to take over tasks such as gardening, swimming pool maintenance, work around the house – rather practical.

Further tasks are maintenance and cleaning of the three holiday rentals (two for 6 persons, one for 3 persons), main building maintenance, cleaning and doing the laundry. Guest welcomening is another part of the job and making sure that the holiday rentals are properly equipped etc. – there is no food making involved or similar.

In general it is necessary to have a certain sense of independent working, and not being entirely focused on daily, specific directions. Also you should speak French of course.

The rent for the house is to be discussed.

This sounds very interesting – I will pass this on to some friends who may be interested. Could you confirm if fluent French is essential and also if children are permitted?

Natasha, great. A certain degree of French would be needed, yes. But it’s also thinkable that they would just learn.. Children are of course permitted.

Great – will pass on the link! You never answered about children?

Children are permitted, of course.

Is this arrangement now filled? If not I would be interested to discuss it directly, thanks, Frank
