We just received some impressive pictures from the Guy Pinard vineyard where the very high temperatures (more than 35°C) of yesterday and today literally grilled grapes!
This kind of temperatures (a 52 year record, almost 40° C) are not unusual in Charente. But it is at the stage of the vine fruit development and one can see the damage the extreme heat can make.
Pinards evaluate the loss of production at about 5% in certain parcels.
Let’s see how this dry heat will effect the october harvest results. We’ve never seen something like it.

This vineyard injury contrast to the excellent health of the vineyard elsewhere. Fortunately, falling temperature today stopped the phenomenon and probably don’t have so much impact to the final harvest. Very impressive anyway.
According to earliness, harvest will probably occur mid-September rather than October.
